The following site offers classic examples of Mark Twain's after-dinner speeches and toasts:

http://etext.virignia.edu/railton/onstage/speeches.html

Go to this site and evaluate Twain's ability to adapt to his audience as he presents his message. Note how the use of humor has changed during the past century. Use the following questions to evaluate not only Mark Twain's messages, but also your own:

  1. Was the humor appropriate for the audience, the topic, and the occasion?
  2. Were stories told effectively?
  3. Did the speaker use examples and illustrations appropriately?
