Cocaine Anonymous
Organization devoted to helping adolescents and adults recover from addiction
to cocaine and other mood-altering drugs. Follows methods used by Alcoholics
Anonymous.
Little League Baseball
Organizes baseball and softball programs for children 6 to 18 years of age,
including a special division for children with disabilities.
U.S. Youth Soccer Association
Supports soccer programs for children 6 to 18 years of age throughout the
United States. Seeks to encourage participation and offer equal opportunity
regardless of ability or sex. Distributes supplies and support necessary to
form teams.
Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI)
Organization interested in promoting sound educational practice from infancy
through early adolescence. Student membership is available.
High/Scope Educational Research Foundation
Devoted to improving development and education from infancy through the high
school years.
Division on Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities of the Council for Exceptional Children
Organization of teachers of the mentally retarded aimed at advancing
education, research, and public education.
Learning Disabilities Association of America
A 60,000-member organization of parents of learning-disabled children and
interested professionals. Local groups provide parent support and education
and sponsor recreational programs and summer camps for children.
National Association for Gifted Children
Association of scholars, educators, and librarians devoted to advancing
education for gifted children.
National Dropout Prevention Center
A center offering information on school dropout prevention and identifying
high-risk youth. Provides consultation and referral services to school
systems, agencies, and associations dealing with the dropout problem.
National School-to-Work Learning and Information Center
Provides information on the U.S. School-to-Work Opportunities Act, which
provides seed money to the states for stimulating school-to-work partnerships
between local businesses, schools, community organizations, and government.
