The
latest edition of CompSite includes a new design, new sections, and updates
to existing resources. The major sections are now listed in the site menu on
each page. You can also quickly find highlights by looking through the Selected
Resources featured at the top of every page. If you need guidance, be sure to
check out our new Site Map.
A very exciting development is the creation of a new group of resources for CompSite, available in our Subject Areas section. It's no secret that students are doing more and more research on the Internet. The Subject Areas are designed to help students to discover online resources that lend themselves to academic work. In addition to pointing toward reviewed and specialized Internet search sites, each Subject Area provides resources geared toward students and scholars working in specific academic disciplines. Students can explore valuable resources relating to the humanities, the natural sciences, the social sciences and business all from this new section of our site.
Students will also find Evaluation Central to be a terrific asset as they conduct online research. This new section of CompSite provides assistance in evaluating Internet resources. It covers the general characteristics of online information, provides guidance for evaluating both conversational and Web-based resources, and offers useful links to additional information.
Instructors will be pleased to see the new resources included in our Teaching Tools section. We've updated existing resources and incorporated a wealth of new materials including information about creating assignments, teacher training and advice, readings and resources, instructional tools and course sites on the Web.
We've also updated our Internet search pages to include the latest general and specialized search engines. Of course, our information about searching still includes advice about search strategies, evaluating information and researching to write.
Most of the information that previous visitors to CompSite have grown to love is still available. Our Featured Texts pages now include information about the latest print sources available from Allyn & Bacon and our sections offering resources from College Online and covering Internet writing, newsgroups, email and Web composition have all been updated.
There is a lot to see in this latest edition of CompSite. We hope you enjoy it.
