Types of theories
- Inductive theory: built on strong data base and tends to stay close to the data
- Deductive theory: more grand scheme, which at least initially may have only minimal empirical support
- Functional theory: about equal emphasis on inductive and deductive processes during theory development
- Models: an analogical representation of reality
