As we said in the preface to MOOniversity, because MOOs are dynamic and interactive spaces, teachers need a support network that includes information as well as access to other teachers who use MOOs. Thus, this resource section supplements the instructor resources with more general links to other educational and professional MOO sources on the Internet. Keep in mind, however, that these links may change, disappear, or be temporarily unavailable. We will strive to keep them updated, but if you find a broken link or missing site, please let us know.
We appreciate any ideas you may have about other links that would be helpful to have on this page, so please contact us with ideas (email cynthiah@utdallas.edu).
We recommend the following sites of interest to educational and professional MOO teachers and administrators:
MOO programming instructions are basically derived from the LambdaMOO manual (developed by Pavel Curtis), though many other MOO programmers have since added other functionality to that core, as well as the fact that more recent cores are sometimes completely new hybrids of that core and new code. Thus, the sites below may offer conflicting information about programming, but should offer enough information to get started:
The following sites contain information, lists of MOOs, and archived documents about MOO research.
Several sites online offer information about MOO/MUD clients as well as ftp sites for downloading free client software. More recent web-based MOO access systems, like enCore Xpress, do not require additional software other than Netscape or MS Internet Explorer. Still, the following sites will be helpful for those who do not have access to web-based MOOs or whose internet access is limited to accessing MOOs via text-based telnet clients like MUDwin or MUDDweller.
Basic instructions for MOOing abound in sites all over the WWW. However, we have collected a few here for you, although it is necessary to first look for the guide or help texts on the MOOs you visit since the commands differ slightly from MOO to MOO.
