Karen E. ReynoldsKaren E. Reynolds is a Professor in the Teacher Education Division at San José State University. She is currently completing a term as the Director of the Multiple Subjects Teacher Credential Program. Dr. Reynolds teaches Science Curriculum and Teaching Methods, Teaching and Learning in a High Tech Environment, Orientation to Student Teaching, and Educational Research at SJSU, and advises MA candidates. She received her A.B. Degree in Life Science from Sacramento State College, her M.A. in Biology (emphasis in marine biology) at San Francisco State University, and her Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley with a focus on science education, middle level education, and technology. TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
Karen Reynolds has been an educator for more than thirty years, including 16 years as a classroom teacher of junior high general science in Oakland CA, 16+ years as a teacher supervisor and pre-service K-12 methods instructor at UC Berkeley and San José State, and 24 years as an instructor for K-12 teacher in-service and faculty professional development. M.A. Degree advisees work with her in areas of K-12 science education, middle level education, and/or technology. She has worked with students and teachers from diverse cultural backgrounds and has taught in the areas of science, teacher education, computer and technology education, outdoor education and other subjects including some mathematics and physical education. Her first teaching experience was through US Peace Corps (Nigeria 64-66).
WORKSHOPS, CONSULTING, and PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS:
Dr. Reynolds presents workshops and provides consulting in (a) Integrating technology in science instruction, (b) Assessment through video-based media, (c) Toys for teaching physical science, (d) Teaching and Learning Science in a Constructivist Environment, and other areas in science and technology education.
Current interests in research, instructional innovations, and curriculum development include (a) technology-based assessment strategies, (b) integrating science and fine arts in elementary and middle schools, and (c) developing effective methods for distance education.
