Sternberg's Triarchic Theory of Intelligence

According to Sternberg's Triarchic Theory (1985, 1986), there are three distinct types of intelligence: componential, experiential, and contextual. Componential intelligence emphasizes effectiveness in information processing. Persons high on this dimension are able to think critically and analytically. Experiential intelligence emphasizes insight and the ability to formulate new ideas. Contextual intelligence emphasizes intelligence in a practical sense. Persons high on this dimension quickly recognize what factors influence success on various tasks and are adept at both adapting to and shaping their environment so that they can accomplish various goals.
