Long-Term Memory

The long-term storage system keeps a relatively permanent record of information. One model of long-term memory divides it into two types: declarative and procedural. Declarative memory includes what can be declared or brought to mind as fact. Declarative memory is further distinguished as either episodic -- having specific time and place references -- or semantic -- more abstract and conceptual. Procedural memory includes motor skills and habits.
