James D. Allen ("Jim" to his friends) is currently associate professor of educational psychology at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. He received his Ph. D. in educational psychology from the University of California - Santa Barbara (1982). For the past six years he has taught at least two, sometimes as many as four, sections of educational psychology courses utilizing case method instruction. Allen has taught at Jilian Teachers College in the Peoples Republic of China of 1997. He also taught at Penn State University- Altoona, UCLA, and for California State University- Northridge. Allen also taught mathematics in public schools from 1972 to 1977. His research interests include case-method instruction, motivation and mastery learning, and classroom management.
