Name of Chapter: What is a Case? What Distinguishes Case Learning?

Chapter Preview: This first chapter discusses what a case is and characterizes case instruction as holistic, constructivist, and active. Teaching with cases obligates us to go beyond what we know in a given situation. Hendrik Gideonse, Dean Emeritus at the University of Cincinnati, succinctly captures the broad ideas embedded in case learning and enumerates five dimensions in case instruction: preparation, instruction, assessment, training, and resources.
