William F. Losito is professor of educational philosophy in the Department of Teacher Education at the University of Dayton. He earned his doctorate in philosophy of education from Indiana University - Bloomington. Losito has presented and published papers nationally and internationally on a variety of topics related to the philosophy of education. A major responsibility of his is doctoral teaching and inquiry pertinent to the ethical dimension of educational leadership. Of particular scholarly interest to him is the role of religion in democratic education and he has served on the education committee of the United States Catholic Conference. Prior to his appointment at the University of Dayton, Losito was Heritage Professor of Education at the College of William and Mary. Name of Chapter: Using Cases in Professional Ethics Chapter Preview: Bill Losito from the University of Dayton uses examples from classic and contemporary novels and short stories to invite critical engagement in moral issues as he and his students discuss the complexity of professional ethical decision-making in this graduate-level course. Losito also presents a model for a moral view as well as criteria for objective reasoning and includes a case that he has written about an ethical reward system in an urban school.
