Deborah Sharp Libby is an assistant professor in the Elementary Education and Early Childhood Department at Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. Libby teaches several courses in reading, language arts, and assessment in early childhood and elementary education. She also supervises students in field experiences and student teaching. Libby earned her doctorate in reading and language arts at the University of Pittsburgh and was introduced to the use of teaching cases by her advisor, Stephen Koziol. With case integrated instruction, Libby has found that students are more likely to find multiple solutions to problems and support their reasoning in a professional and comprehensive manner. Although case integrated instruction is definitely more time consuming, Libby believes the rewards at the end of each discussion are worth it.
