CyberReader 2/e
Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs)

As my publisher and I receive repeatedly the same or similar questions,
we will place them here as FAQs so that all might have the benefit of them. In this way you will be contributing to the success of a virtual writing community. Be sure to let us hear from you. We are especially interested in your students' work. Send us your URLs for your "CyberReader Web sites." Victor J. Vitanza

1. The big question, of course, is How do I get a copy of this ground-breaking book?

If you would like to order an exam copy of CyberReader 2/e, contact: Lisa Kimball. Or if you would like to have a personal copy, you can order one or several from Amazon.com.

2. In the preface to CyberReader 1/e, I included a list of FAQs, the last one of which asks ...

Is there a website on the net where I can find FAQs about FAQs?

Yes, it's World Wide Web FAQs <http://www.boutell.com/faq/>. This URL is a correction of the one published in CR.

3. Is there someone who is using CR 1/e or 2/e who has it worked into a sample syllabus on a Website?

There are numerous examples on the Web. You can find them at the CyberReader Syllaweb. I am using CR for a Junior Level "Computers and Writing" course that is entitled "Writing for the WWW." See Vitanza, E3371-72.

4. So, V.V., Why did you include Borges's "The Library of Babel" in this book?

VVell, it was only natural that I include it, since so many people refer to this story--all of Borges's stories--as proto-hypertext. But I included it more so because it is a wonderful and I think practical and theoretical example of what the New Virtual Library (the WWW) is becoming. So Why? did I include it? Like Borges, "I [wanted to] affirm that the library is interminable"

5. In your first edition at times you put in these characters: . )>= What does it mean? It's an emoticon, but I can't find it anywhere.

It's one of my signatures, signifying a one-eyed, vampire pirate with a beard! I hope that this explanation helps . )>=

6. The cover art is great. On the back of the book, there's a note saying that Lawrence San Studios did it. What else can you tell me?

Yes, we got permission and paid for the use of this digital work by Lawrence San. The title of the work is "Madame Cyborg".
